Hey Seth Man,

Just picked up Evil Acidhead on the strength of your review - what a trip (the album's great too!).

Reminds me in a way of Jimmy Page's Lucifer Rising score crossed with early Heldon...a strange & strong brew indeed.

Thanx!

Z

I can hear the LR score for sure. The guitar parts reminded me of Paul Leary at times (like "Barking Dogs" from Piouhgd). I've been meaning to listen to Monster Magnet for like 30 years, so maybe now's the time.

I still really enjoy the album McBain did with Kandodo (Simon Price from The Heads).

Hey thanks man. That looks wild. I just found it on bandcamp and will give it a listen asap [EDIT: Just did - It's awesome!]

Here's an early Monster Magnet album I found recently which I recommend wholeheartedly - Test Patterns Vol 1:

Great call about Paul Leary - you're right on. I've been listening a lot lately to the Surfers' Double Live, especially the amazing Psychedelic Jam. Certainly traffics in the same heavy vibes...

Thanks again for the heads up!

Oh, and another McBain-related release that was just reissued a few weeks back on God Unknown is the terrific Declaration of Conformity by Wellwater Conspiracy, the band he was in with a few fellas from Soundgarden in the early 90s. Really amazing acid fried retro-psych songcraft ala Syd and Roky ...

Cool, I have a bunch of the 7" singles from God Unknown, but haven't heard any of their albums yet. Will check those out.

Hey, Zariadris,
Thanks so much. So glad you dig! I think it's an incredible album. It's a psychedelic garage masterpiece. Or minimalism gone up upside into its own its head and spiraling out into infinity.

Another great review Seth. I've heard a smattering of Li's output since you hyped the VagusNerve cd. I snagged the last cd of this one on bandcamp (sorry not sorry), but digital as always available in perpetuity.

I love that though we can always champion the guitar frontiersmen of the past, we can also appreciate those who are still exploring. Classic riffs are fine and everything, but anything psychedelic in nature can keep changing not only our minds, but the musical landscape, well after any cheap drugs wear out their welcome.

I also saw he has a new lp coming out in March, his 2nd only vinyl offering.

Citizensmurf,

Many thanks, man. I hope you get as much out of it as I did (and still do.)

Another new release? Excellantay! Apparently, VagusNerve are working on a third album, which I'm sure will be mind-blowing thing, given the past two releases and where Li and Wei Wei have been for the past several years.

Thanks for the feedback on the feedback!

I seem to remember you mentioned a melodic similarity a Skellington track had to an old (French?) song. Cant find the post - can you remind me?
Thanks!
