Carnage - Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds
There are some stunning moments on St Nicholas’ latest release, not least the title track.

Translucence - Poly Styrene
I’d like to say this is better than was considered when it was released all those years ago, but I can’t. File under Brave But Disappointing.

Zinc Alloy & the Hidden Riders Of Tomorrow - Marc Bolan & T.Rex
Marc Bolan would have been 74 last week so on the evening of his birthday I switched off the lights and listened to some Marc In The Dark. I chose the much maligned ZA. Sure I understand the accusations that it’s messy, over-produced, the backing vocals are too loud, etc, but I love it. It exists in its own world. Funky guitars. Soul influences. Beautiful strings. It sounds like no other album at times. The two tracks that stood out this week were the single Teenage Dream and Carmsile Smith & The Old One which contains one of my fave Bolan guitar solos.
