Cope Tour

Back from my Julian weekend!

Friday @ Gorilla, Manchester
Support act Keeley Forsyth - I could have done without her touching arms mannerisms but found her musically interesting. Baseball cap pulled down low like Scott and musically reminiscent too. Great voice!
Well our Julian was on fine form. Career spanning set from old Teardrop numbers Treason, Passionate Friend and The Great Dominions to a couple of tracks off the excellent new Self Civil War album, such as Your Facebook My Laptop and a beautiful Immortal with lots of other old favourites along the way. Great gig. (World Shut Your Mouth and Robert Mitchum were both printed as the encore on the setlist which was visible from where I was standing, but neither were played - Dope & Speed listed in the main set was the encore)

Saturday @ Gorilla, Manchester
Missed Keeley Forsyth tonight. Pretty much the same Julian set as last night but with a couple of changes. So tonight we got Paranormal In The West Country and the big hit single that was World Shut Your Mouth. And a very different (not better, not worse, just rowdier) audience! (Especially with the Oi's on Cromwell In Ireland) And there was a very entertaining account of how he and Ian McCulloch of the Bunnymen came to write Read It In Books by ripping a Fall song off (Stepping Out). Quality evening all round x

Sunday @ Arts Club, Liverpool
Forsyth did less of the annoying picking at her things. Musically she definitely has something as far as I'm concerned.
Another really good Cope gig but though Liverpool is often the best place to see him for obvious reasons, in truth the audience weren't as boisterous as last night so it didn't quite reach last night's dizzy heights for me. And obviously I know the pattar pretty well by now! Strangely we didn't get Treason in Liverpool (the last place you would expect him to mit it, but hey he plays by his own rules!) but we did get an impromptu Double Vegetation after the fella behind me shouted for it (I shouted for Uptown Girl but that's another story!!). And the couple next to me were all misty eyed during the new number Immortal as they had got engaged as Julian was playing it during an earlier gig at Margate. Aww!! Anyway, it was a fabulous weekend, folks x

Anyone know what some of the tunes were being played between Keeley Forsyth finishing and Julian coming on last night? I know they played Dope's Too Much Religion at the start and the end of the gig (what a tune!).

Three omissions from the Newcastle gig that were on the set list, but weren't played. Although 'Read It In Books' was not on the set list, but Copey played it.

'Drink Me Under The Table'
'WSYM'
'Robert Mitchum'

Last two times I've seen Cope at Newcastle and last two times he has not played 'WSYM'. Bugger !!!!!

Yeah, Keeley Forsyth was a weird set, indeed. No doubt.

I was wondering what the pre-gig tunes were, also? Although interesting that Cope came on stage to 'Camera Camera' by The Teardrop Explodes.

But, a thoroughly enjoyable Newcastle gig and I managed to get some good viddy clips of Copey from the balcony.

Maybe I missed this elsewhere but: Is he playing with a band, or is it Just Julian up there on stage for this tour? I feel so far away from it all in Canada.

The helper is Julian’s lead guitarist and tech, Chris.

So, that's Chris Holman who played guitar on 'Self Civil War'?
Thanks for the info.

Going to the Leadmill (Sheffield) on Saturday night and really looking forward to it. Any interesting merch on sale at other gigs?
