Fifty years old this week. Shame they didn't take the opportunity to finally do an expanded reissue.

'Empty Sky' has never had its dues, critically or commercially. Even ol'Reg himself has disparaged it. Shame, because to my ears it's a bit of a lost baroque pop gem: very time-locked in 1969 but packed with aural pleasures. In fact, I prefer 'Empty Sky' to the more more lauded, wan and mournful self titled album that followed it, and vastly prefer it to what Elton's released in recent years.
