Thanks - I will definitely check out Chonyid. I really like the two Peasants releases that are on Bandcamp. I dont think there's anything else out there...unless you know otherwise?

I love Transits too. I've only listened to Super-Individual once - i think i also need to give it a few more listens

I think Thrice Woven is great. WITTR are consistanly good in my opinion, but this latest one is particularly impressive.

I need to investigate Chaley Pride - I like what I have heard / seen on TV, but dont have any albums. Would welcome any recomendations

S/T - Fujiya & Miyagi
I believe this 2017 album is a compilation of F&M recent 45's. I hadn't heard any of them prior to getting this, but gotta say this a hugely enjoyable electronic pop album.

Send - Wire
Object 47 - Wire
Send, their early 2000's comeback album, is a total blast, like a Pink Flag for the Pro-Tools generation. Object 47 was disappointing by comparison – the production just isn't quite crisp enough somehow. Not a bad album by any means though – and the closing All Fours is stonking!

Also...
Let It Be – The Beatles

The Wild River – The Blow Monkeys

Push The Sky Away - Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds

Doctor Syntax – Edwyn Collins

Cansei De Ser Sexy – CSS

Morning / Evening - Four Tet

Here, My Dear (Deluxe) – Marvin Gaye

Gris-Gris – Dr John
Babylon – Dr John
Remedies – Dr John

Viva - La Dusseldorf

No Fun / Jukebox Babe 12” - Moon Duo

Low In High School – Morrissey

20 Years In A Montana Missile Silo – Pere Ubu

Carry Fire - Robert Plant

Jordan: The Comeback – Prefab Sprout

The Race For Space - Public Service Broadcasting

Blue & Lonesome – Rolling Stones

Pure Mania – The Vibrators

Escape From Hell – Tapper Zukie

Slug – Higgledy Piggledy. Solo project by mate of Field Music, and this is very much in the same ballpark as FM, particularly their earlier, spiky prog pop stuff rather than the more recent Hall & Oates meets 10cc vibe. Anyway, pretty good, if a bit clever clever overall.

National Jazz Trio Of Scotland – Standards vol IV. Bill Wells has been doing this kind of mellow avant pop thing for quite a while now, but this (I think) is a bit different, mostly due to the presence of singer Kate Sudgen, who has a hypnotically unaffected singing style. Seems strangely hookless at first, but it draws you in…

Cavern Of Anti-Matter – Hormone Lemonade

Sula Bassana – The Night. Most modern ‘space rock’ leaves me cold, but this from a few years ago is lovely, because it isn’t slavishly canonical: https://sulabassana.bandcamp.com/album/the-night

VA – Cosmic Machine. The French just love sci-fi disco.

Listen With Father:

Still blasting out my home-made rock comp on the way to school, which includes the utterly brilliant version of Joan Baez’s ‘Diamonds And Rust’ by Judas Priest. I was fascinated by this track when I was young, particularly the way it showed that a hard rock song could accommodate a literate vision without sounding clunky or wanky, “I’ll be damned, here comes your ghost again…” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vLDazyvMMGw

The Vinyl Countdown – B:

Blind Idiot God – Undertow. BIG’s debut album is one of my all-time faves, but this follow-up is also tremendous. A band who should be a LOT better known/venerated than they are, they somehow manage to channel Black Flag, Jimi Hendrix, King Crimson, Sly & Robbie and Igor Stravinsky into a seamless whole: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZeFzmo-kAOU&t=274s

I heard Wolves in the Throne Room for the first time only last week when a mate of mine brought the CD over. I am well impressed: they have a massive, dark dark sound which really fills every part of the cranium. The whole thing comes across like a gigantic metal orchestra with amazing tunes coming through the melee. I must investigate further.

Charley Pride (what a contrast!) on the other hand, has been part of my listening life since I was a kid. My dad had a tape of his first ‘Best Of’ from 1969 and we played it regularly in the car. Pride has one of those voices that just appeals to me. In recent years I’ve checked out his 60’s and early 70’s albums via BGO’s excellent ‘4 albums on 2 CDs’ sets. The 60’s albums are uniformly good, as are those up to about ‘74 - ‘75, but things get a bit less echt-country and more MOR after that. That said, Pride’s latest album ‘Music In My Heart’ is a real return to form and quite remarkable for a man of 83. The tone of his chops has of course aged, but the artistry remains strong.

There are several good (and cheap) Charley Pride comps out there which tend to focus on his peak late 60’s - early 70’s material. I spotted a good one in HMV at the weekend called ‘Through The Years’ for just £4. I recommend you start there.

Yeah! I heard this on 6Music last week. Lovely, isn't it? I might have to invest!

I'm always hearing him featured on online psych radio shows. Check out his band Electric Moon, too. I've done a few festivals that they've been on the bill for.
