I'm with you on this one. Most 4AD stuff sounds really dated to me now, and I bought a lot of it at the time and thought of it as ground-breaking then, which I suppose it was in its way, but it just hasn't stood the test of time to my ears. The exception being Dead Can Dance who I'm more into now than I was then, because they manage to sound more timeless. Possibly due to their lesser reliance on the trademark cathedral of reverb guitar sound of their labelmates.
