I definitely like the new discs from GHOST DEERHOOF and RTX but haven't given any of them the attention they deserve yet so can't really say how much I'll dig 'em in the end I liked the last SIX ORGANS OF ADMITTANCE (if that was this year? my records are in a box as I am about to move to Los Angeles) and there's an ACID MOTHERS TEMPLE disc with Crystal Rainbow in the title that I like quite a bit if resissues count I'm diggin BETTY DAVIS and also very much BORIS with MICHIO KURIHARA

It's kind of a 'Remain In Light', Malo meets War meets Can meets Alternative TV thing. Damo even sounds a bit like JC in parts. If Medium Medium had made more records they would have sounded a bit like this.

Jakobinarina; the singles "His lyrics Are Disastrous" , "Jesus", and "This Is An Advertisement". A band of whip-smart Icelandic teenage pop-punks, in-yer-face frontman - saw them in Edinburgh a couple of weeks ago supporting Cajun Dance Party and they were great - left before the headliners natch! Album later in the year "The First Crusade" - bound to be a cracker also. "Hello. We are Jakobínarína and we are officially announcing we are sell-outs, We will even change our name to the Coca-Cola band!" Times New Viking - The Paisley Reich (Siltbreeze) - post pavement attitude + girl vox + a knackered buzzing amp + very loud mastering = ouch my ears! Tinariwen “Aman Iman: Water Is Life” - kind of reed/morrison feel to their desert guitar drones. + (of course) The Fall "Post Reformation T.L.C." - Smith's new american backing band sound fine to me, despite reports to the contrary. It's about 50-50 genius / filler ratio, but The Fall at their best are worth it. The second night in Edinburgh earlier this year was one of the best Fall gigs I've seen over 23-years - took me back to Scanlon, Hanley, Burns era.

I'm sure you already have listened two the two appetizers on their MySpace (if not: http://www.myspace.com/orthodoxband ) OM: It's supposed to be out on Southern Lord soon and produced by Albini, isn't it?

I don't really listen to much new music because generally I spend my time discovering old music. Best brand new record of the year so far for me is Nick Harper's 'Miracles for Beginners'. In fact I'm struggling to think of another newly released record I've heard. Possibly the new Porcupine Tree album, but then that might be from 2006 for all I know. I thought that I was being hip when I said I like 'The Feeling' - apparently they're old hat now and were never 'cool' at all whatever that means. J x
