Good work. Don't want to sound nerdy, but I'd like to see how many votes different artists got overall since I think quite a lot of people chose different works by the same artist.

Also very keen to see some of the ones that didn't make the Top 100 - the more obscure ones.

Hardly any of mine in there, which is a good thing!

Hell, looks good to me ! If somebody approached you for a broad-ish cross section of western rock, you could do worse than give em' the list.
Do you think it'll end up like a less obscure 'Nurse List' ?? : ) (only Joking)

How about the rest of the list too?? though i appreciate that your fingers may take a bashing.
Is their a website where it's all compiled ?

Anyhow, nice work D3000

My understanding is that the work was done on an abacus, the backs of several fag packets and Dog 3000's paws.

Yeah, great work Dogman. I am proud to say that I own 68% of the list, and knowing the erudite taste of the readership of this site I am confident that the remaining 32% (the bulk of which I don't actually know, I'm afraid to admit) will be well worth acquiring. A lot more enlightening than similar lists in Mojo and Classic Rock anyway, even if it does show an inevitable Drude bias (nowt wrong with that, mind).

Just out of interest, what would've made the list had Copey's albums been omitted?

looking at it, I'm slightly surprised I 'only' own 75% of them - surprised cos i really should own at least 15 of the ones I missed (like i dont have Led Zep 3, or Sgt peppers, not that threre is ever really a reason to actually play SPLHCB ever again).

surprised Fall only made it in at 100, & then that it was Witch Trials. too split over a vast number of albums I suppose.

& if the thread had been posted over in HH, anyone think Peggy would have beaten Jehovah?

More to come . . .

The whole list is actually 242 albums long (every record that made at least 2 people's lists.)

I've also put together 2 more lists "top 60 individuals" and "top 102 groups" -- like Nat pointed out, some artists had their votes spread over a whole bunch of different albums -- so they got a lot of votes, but none of their records placed particularly high.

All this stuff is supposed to go up at the Screaming Secrets site "soon" (haven't actually sent the results in yet, still tinkering with the format of the lists etc.)

Aren't you meant to include a competition to win the top 100? I think it's the list you can do Dog 3000, after subjecting us to the whole list/troll fiasco. And let me win...

TOP 20 GROUPS & INDIVIDUALS
Jan 06, 2004, 16:38
Just the top 20's, for your gratification:

TOP 20 GROUPS
1 Can
2 Velvet Underground
3 Pink Floyd
4 Black Sabbath
5 Led Zeppelin
6 Beatles
7 Stooges
8 Neu!
9 Love
10 Captain Beefheart & The Magic Band
11 Hawkwind
12 Clash
13 Television
14 Joy Division
15 Kraftwerk
16 Fall
17 Wire
18 Beach Boys
19 Rolling Stones
20 Parliament / Funkadelic

TOP 20 INDIVIDUALS
1 Julian Cope
2 John Cale
3 Lou Reed
4 David Bowie
5 John Lennon
6 Iggy Pop
7 George Harrison
8 Brian Eno
9 Nico
10 Bob Dylan
11 Neil Young
12 Syd Barrett
13 Miles Davis
14 Nick Drake
15 Jim Morrison
16 Roky Erikson
17 Robert Calvert
18 Steve Hillage
19 Nick Cave
20 Jimi Hendrix

(The individuals list needs some explaining -- basically to make the list 1) you had to have received at least one vote for a solo record, but 2) I also counted any group or collaboration albums as well -- that explains why George Harrison is high up the list (Beatles records) and Paul McCartney is not on there (nobody voted for his solo albums.)
