Roman Ridge under threat again

Just seen a report online from the Sheffield Star - sorry can't do link - that once again developers are trying to build on part of this below Wincobank hillfort. The area under threat is off Sandstone Road, where 22 houses are planned. The Ridge is now believed to be a tribal boundary built by the Brigantes and runs for 27km from Lady's Bridge to Mexborough, with gaps due to farming and housing predation. As Moss has observed elsewhere this should be classified as nationally important. NB Due to length it hasn't had a TMA site ref so I'm going to add one on a stretch which is undisturbed. Will try to add some pix asap.

Hi sc, you can find the article by searching for Sheffield Star Roman Ridge. Protestors are the same folk from last time it was tried in '12. Search on TMA for Wincobank. Really must walk some of this...a sleeping giant on the doorstep, like a miniature Offa's Dyke.

Hiya Geoff, long time no communicate/ see - hope you're OK...yup, you're on. Am up north at girlfriend's virtually every weekend but if a weekday is any good, ideally in my bleak work season over next ten weeks or so, then you're on. Haven't done any serious wandering round the Sheff area for best part of a couple of years thru life events and illness but I want to get back into that now...plus I've got a fair few things under my hat you'd rather like if you saw.
