Should I be outraged to read that not only are they emptying the tunnel (ostensibly to repack it with 'safe' chalk), but they're also digging another 20' hole inside it too? Nothing of that size was mentioned in the blurb I read before they started!

No wonder they're light on photographic evidence. What the hell else are they getting up to in there, one wonders?

Check out http://www.bbc.co.uk/bristol/realmedia/pwaod/bb/silbury_4x3_bb.ram if you haven't done so already; a previous example of patronizing incompetence. I especially like Atkinson's, "An enormous layered cake" (he means Silbury) which his interviewer further embellishes by drawing our attention to Atkinson's, "...little drawing on a piece of old iron."

Not much change there then. Forty years on and English Heritage are still bungling things when it comes to providing the public with accurate, up-to-the-minute information on its activities at Silbury - this time with 'little drawings' on its website instead of 'little drawings' on an old piece of iron.

Outraged perhaps but as a founder member of Heritage Action I doubt if you're surprised. Wasn't HA formed precisely as a result of some of us reading between the lines of the blurb of that time and fearing that this day would come?

Not surprised at all. I only asked because outrage fatigue is starting to set in - I'm not sure how much more of this I can take.

How much more ineptitude is the hill expected to suffer?
