There's a fecken Kula Shaker 'Best of' out. Not only must it be the shortest album of all time (copyright 1948), but didn't they only release like two albums or something. Oh, god, thank fuck they've gone.

Don't know what people have got against Kula Shaker, I likes em. Their best of got an absolute panning by nme. "Don't panic, stay calm, its just the end of the world". Marvellous. "I'm a wizard in a blizzard, a mystical machine gun". The very thought.

Another vote for Sunspots. Even though my list has fallen prey to my usual indecision, I'd add that one. Mine would have to have at least one each from Cope's first two solo albums, and I already said Bandy's First Jump. Eight more to go... xxoo 'patra

With some more time to actually sit over a pint and a smoke to think about it, I'm sure I could come with 10 tunes that would flow better... in this case I should've substituted "Into the Void" for "Supernaut". But hey- what do you expect off the top a guy's head!

1. Kevin Ayers: diminshed but not finished (oh that piano) 2. Velvet Underground: lady godiva's operation (the way Lou comes in finishing John's line with "sweetly") 3. joy division: atmosphere (reduces me to sobs everytime) 4. Eno: paw paw negro blowtorch (sorts everyone into like or hate it without fail) 5. Pavement: Watery domestic EP (okay so i'm cheating on this one) 6. Cope: I gotta walk (honestly almost crashed a car listening to this, then the tape stuck in the player. must've been a cosmic vibe) 7. Bowie: Heroes (it should be drab, but it never fails to uplift me, listened to it on a beach with the missus at sunset next to a campfire, felt heroic) 8. talking heads: found a job (whitey gets funky in a jerky sorta way) 9. add n to (x): metal fingers in my body (the kinda music that makes you want to throw yourself down a flight of stairs in gay abandon) 10. iggy: raw power (just for the opening lines: "i'm a street walking cheetah with a heart full of napalm/i'm the runaway son of a nuclear a-bomb", i would feel like such a gimp if i had written that, but with iggy you can believe it)

In the interests of diplomacy I'm not going to comment on Kula Shaker's music, but what I will say is that I used to play in a band with someone that went to boarding school with Crispian Mills' brother, and even CM's own brother apparently thinks he's a twat.
