Gutted, saw it in the grainiad earlier. Friken 61, no age. Loved all the bands he played in, plus a pretty salubrious track record for a producer/engineer. Decent fella too. There is/was a new Shellac record due out this month, here's hoping it's a stormer. Always associate Albini, pals and the whole scene really with some great times in the mid-late 80's and beyond. Saw Shellac in Brum last time around, was a stormer of a night. Will deffo be sadly missed around our house.

Awful news. Apart from the joys of Big Black and Shellac, he produced my favourite album of the 1990s (Seamonsters). He always came across as a proper righteous guy too, definitely a musicians' musician/producer.

The Weddoes never sounded better than with Steve Albini at the helm, and that’s from a fan of most of Gedge’s work. RIP Maestro.
