The Acid Trash Jamboree - A YouTube Channel Dedicated to Strange Music (and Films!)
Feb 28, 2024, 23:44
Greetings!

I've been a lowly lurker around these parts on and off for ages now, but with some JC-related content in the works for my YouTube channel, I figured now might be a good time to actually sign up and start contributing to this fine forum!

So yes, The Acid Trash Jamboree is the name of the channel, where I show and discuss all manner of offbeat, obscure, weird and wonderful music from my personal collection (as well as films, if they're your thing too).

Types of music covered: psychedelic/space/progressive rock, acid/freak folk, harsh noise, industrial, power electronics, drone, black/death/doom/heavy metal, free jazz/improv, fusion, outsider, dark ambient, neofolk, avant-garde, dungeon synth, Krautrock/Kosmische, lo-fi, post-punk, psych pop, freakbeat, American Primitive etc etc...

Here's a guide to all the music-related episodes I've uploaded so far:

Episode 22 - Coruscating Compilations! "Darkscorch Canticles" & "Acid Nightmares" (Warfaring Strangers)

Hopefully there's some stuff there that a few of you might be interested in! As I say, I'm working on a Cope-centric video right now, which I hope to have finished and uploaded within the next few days and I've got a tonne of ideas for future content, which I'll post about here in due course.

Cheers if you decide to check the channel out!

Nice stuff. Love the Dope video from yesterday. Not sure if we'll see anymore from them, but twas a good run. And yes, some are difficult to get but at the time of sale they were around for a decent amount of time.

Looking forward to more.

Awesome- thanks all for the warm welcome and for the interest in the channel!

Indeed, the new video is up as of yesterday...

Episode 24 - Groovy Monotony! Dope feat. Julian Cope - A (Partial) Overview...

https://youtu.be/KZOUtNj1N1w

It would be a shame if Dope were done for good- here's hoping for some more archival material, if nothing else!

Watch here:

https://youtu.be/19ltu8MRqJw

In this video we take a look at a bunch of cassettes from that intriguing and mysterious post-James Ferraro/Oneohtrix Point Never/Hypnagogic Pop DIY electronic scene of the late '00s and early '10s, which also took great influence from old masters like Fripp & Eno, Manuel Göttsching, Cluster and Tangerine Dream!

Music discussed and shown...

Roped Off "Is Waiting for Your Challenge!!" (Hausu Mountain)
Deep Magic / Mohave Triangles "Deep Magic / Mohave Triangles" (Diatom Bath)
Reedbeds "Reedbeds" (Calypso Hum)
Reedbeds "Heirloom Rust Garden" (Old Frontiers)
Reedbeds "Basement Grotto" (SicSic)

Cheers!

This is fantastic to see and hear. I played a few sessions with Julian around this time and then lost touch with him. Although I’ve kept a bit of an eye on the releases, I’ve never really put the time into seeing if any of the stuff I played was used or not. Listening now, I’m 99% sure those are my keyboard tracks on Absalom & Ahitophel. Very interesting to hear them again! Great work on the video!

Nice one, that's ace- thanks so much for watching the video and for the kind words!

Thanks also to everyone else who's checked out the channel and/or subscribed since I posted about it here, it's much appreciated!

Anyways, a new video just 'dropped'...

Episode 28 - Box Sets of Doom! Hartmut Geerken / Michael Ranta "The Heliopolar Egg" (5 x CD - Art Into Life)

Watch here:

https://youtu.be/XO28NnRyEzg

In this episode we take a look at "The Heliopolar Egg" by the Sun Ra/Karlheinz Stockhausen collaborators Hartmut Geerken and Michael Ranta- a sprawling, frequently fantastic collection of esoteric improvised music from the 1970s, which mixes up free jazz, drone, noisy proto-industrial electronics and all manner of ethnic folk styles into an intoxicating and thoroughly heady sonic brew!

Ranta and Geerken are/were both keen travellers, putting on multi-media events in countries like Iran, India, Bangladesh, the Philippines, South Korea and Japan, extracts of which can be heard on this box set.

For fans of Taj Mahal Travellers, Takehisa Kosugi, Group Ongaku, Kluster, Don Bradshaw-Leather, AMM, Limbus, MEV, Anima Sound, Throbbing Gristle, Third Ear Band, Gruppo d'Improvvisazione Nuova Consonanza, Conrad Schnitzler, Aktuala, DOM, Kalacakra, Vibracathedral Orchestra, Pelt etc.

Essential listening in other words!
