Happy Trails: Andrew Lauder's Charmed Life And High Times In The Record Business
May 11, 2023, 15:49
I just read this fascinating book in one sitting.

At several points, the cumulative effect of Lauder's involvement with so many excellent groups and fantastic records got to be too much and the magnitude and range of it drove me to laugh out loud.

If you like Can, Neu!, Hawkwind, Groundhogs, Amon Düül II, Bonzo Dog Band, Motorhead, High Tide, The Pop Group, Buzzcocks (and if you don't, what's wrong with you?), this book will show you how lucky we all were that Lauder landed at the UK offices of Liberty Records back then in 1967. With the words of his hiring boss, "I don't know what you're going to do -- we'll just figure it out", Andrew Lauder did. Whether it was fate, his massive love of music or both that guided him, it was astonishing what he accomplished between 1967 and 1977. And beyond.

Clearly composed and high density, Lauder and Mick Houghton have distilled a life of highlights into a thorough and well-plotted autobiography with so much ground covered, that it almost reads like an implausible fantasy...except it's all true.

This is the best book on Rock published in 2023 thus far. Highest Recommendation.
