Mark Fry - Dreaming With Alice
Playing this right now. One of my all-time faves.
It seems we've got a few faves in common - Howell & Ferdinando etc. :-) My sister visited last week and she hadn't heard of Mark Fry. She really liked it, plus a few other new ones to her, such as These Trails, Mellow Candle, and Stone Angel. Nice to have a few beers and to share some sounds...
Definitely due another play of Mellow Candle's 'Swaddling Songs' some time soon. Bit jealous that one of my musical friends has recorded with Alison o'Donnell. Stone Angel is always a winter listen for me, probably because of their earlier incarnation as Midwinter, which I like even better. I made a YouTube video for Mark Fry's 'The Witch' using footage from The Pogles and got a message from someone setting up a concert for Mark asking if they could nick the idea for a back projection. I replied they should contact Oliver Postgate's estate to get permission. Sadly I was in Australia when the concert took place so I never found out if they used it.
Ah, Garerama mentioned the Midwinter connection a few months back, too. I must get around to adding them to my CD collection - I only have one track of theirs on a folk compilation CD. I've seen that witch video on Youtube and didn't realise it was your handiwork (via OP)! Nor did I realise till last week that Mark Fry is from the Fry Quaker family - presumably he's the great great grandson or nephew or such of the remarkable Elizabeth Fry, 18th/19th C prison and social reformer
