I used to lurk around here a lot, back in the last recession. I read the Addresses Drudion like it was a holy missive from Space and popped in here after for extra, precious, aural guidance on all things odd and good. I think this weird corner of the internet did more to shape my musical taste than anything else, other than maybe hearing Faust for the first time.
One time a mad thing happened... Julian Cope played my song on the "radio". I say "radio" because it was one of those online radio thingys that he used to do. I don't remember what the show was called, but it was fucking brilliant, the intro had a thing about a train coming in...siiideways. Anyway, by chance a copy of my band's dodgy-ass, spray-painted CD ended up in JC's hand at a gig of his in Edinburgh in 2012 (I'm in Ireland) and (god bless his eternal soul) the bastard not only listened to it, he fucking played a song on his show. It damn near made my head explode with glee. We were a total disaster of a band, utter eejits existing in an almost entirely collapsed country, in a complete vacuum. We were doomed to failure and embraced it fully. Just knowing that my all-time, pin-up-superstar-hero, had listened to a song that I made up and thought it was "not shit" was basically the apex of my ambition.
Now, here is a new song I made up. It's not as good as my early stuff (that nobody knows) because I'm old now and I have to go to work and cut the grass and read the bad news. I have a baby and a dog and unreasonable bills. But fuck it, one of you weirdos might be momentarily entertained and really that's what it's all about.
