Neubauten Wouldn't have been as varied and interesting without much of his driving force, married to a very rich lady ala Lydon. Lives in Berlin, China and San Fran. Seems like a nice chap these days, but did have several years of various addictions, personal demons etc...heroin blah blah blah...which I guess is where Nick Cave came into the picture. Most of the Bad Seeds were strung out at one time or another, though didn't seem to effect any of those involved in terms of creative output. Does occational spoken word/sound performances under moniker Rede/Speak. Has done a few OST releases, and has an extensive solo/colab catalogue. Has been in various films, a few as himself (though other than the 20 000 days on earth Cave movie, not seen any of the rest, unless the Neubauten docus Listen With Pain and Liebeslieder count). Seems to have a fun sense of humour. Has the most unsettling screamy noise he produces on several recordings. Destroyed the stage at ICA gig in Jan 1984 (some 'artist' decided it would be a good idea to try and reproduce the event in 2007....a bit like those guys who did the same with the Cramps Napa State Mental Hospital gig....tsk, blinkin' artists eh!). I like the guy, but you could say I'm biased, being a Neubauten nut since I first heard the Jim Thirwell compiled 'Strategies Against Architecture Vol: 1' way back in 84'-ish 'Tanz Debil' and 'Krieg In Den Städten' are still two of my fav' Neubaten selections, even after all these years. If you're looking for an inroad, I'd suggest the never less than engaging 'Halber Mensch (Half Man)', probably one of their finest records, and also fairly accessible to boot. Couldn't you apply that to about 99% of performers though? I've been unlucky to know someone with the condition, it was hard work to say the least. BB never stuck me as any more self centered than many other performers/artists. tk421's reply made me chuckle, but yeah, if you care to share, what's yer beef, we'd love to know?

That's a myth. In interviews around 2006 he said he never did hard drugs just booze and speed. Guess he is on expensive vino nowadays.

I love the guy - check out the later Neubauten stuff as well. More centered on German language wordplay though.
