Chris Forsyth & The Solar Motel Band – Rare Dreams: Solar Live 2.27.18. Always strangely exciting to come across a live album that you were actually in the audience for. In a nutshell, guitars guitars guitars… https://chrisforsyth1.bandcamp.com/album/rare-dreams-solar-live-22718 Svvamp – II. Another convincing Scandinavian facsimile of American hard rock circa 1973, but ultimately, what’s the point? Immersion – Sleepless. The new one from Colin Newman and Malka Spigel. It’s pretty decent krautronica with a few bells and whistles, but difficult to get that excited about it. Hilary Woods – Inhaler. Minimal gloom wave with sad-eyed angelic vocals. If that sounds up your street, you’ll love this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lf4nJPs8azM Alanis Obomsawin – Bush Lady. Re-release of only album by Canadian ‘First Nations’ activist. It’s tough going in places, but always compelling, but this track is utterly spellbinding (and reminds me a lot of Melanie De Biasio): https://soundcloud.com/constellation-records/alanis-obomsawin-odana Concretism – For Concrete And Country Vive La Void – s/t Here Lies Man - You Will Know Nothing The 4th Movement – s/t VA – Paris In The Spring Listen With Father: Key tracks on the comp this week include Thin Lizzy’s ‘Waiting For An Alibi’, great example of both a brilliant hard rock and pop song, Hawkwind’s ‘Psychedelic Warlords’ (single version), a catchy piece of space funk which I find slightly surprising wasn’t a hit, the Hawks still being a pretty big band in 1974… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CYzm6t2NDmk Live: The Common Cold – Aces & Eights, Tufnell Park. Have bigged up these guys’ album, so pleased to see them in my near locality. Not sure if anybody else is doing this kind of Fall-indebted, scuzzy post-punk anymore, but the CC do it with aplomb. Truncated set in a basement only slightly bigger than my front room, with what looked like the 14 year old son of a band member roped in on bass, but it felt proper.
