Santana and McLaughlin - Love Devotion Surrender live

...and then some. And it's not called that. Album's title is Invitation to Illumination. Recorded at Montreux in '11, album out in '15. Passed me by at the time, can't recall a mention here. It is simply stunning. Santana plus his band and Johnny Mc. Totally knocked out by this blind (?) purchase of yesterday. Cindy Blackman: WOW. Some of the gig I've now found is on Youtube. The stuff uploaded by Santana's official site is deliberately sound corrupted. Try something like Let Us Go Into The House Of The Lord or Naima instead. If there was an 11/10 I'd give it for this one. Deep joy. Nuff said.

There are a number of live sets from the time the lp was originally released. Looks like it's a US promo tour with something like 10 recordings that have appeared on various torrent sites over the last few years. Songs drawn out longer in places, some things hitting the 20 minute mark possibly higher.

I finally got the remastered cd of the studio stuff around Xmas. Fantastic lp that I've always loved since discovering it in the late 80s.
Have wondered what else fits with it since it doesn't quite seem to fit into fusion etc. Too intense a hit or something.

I saw Santana around the time of the recording of the original album and know just how much he was cooking back then. I really think the album of the topic lives with that stuff....t h a t is praise. An unexpected total bullseye. Will try not to froth further, but am gone on it.
