Mojo Psych special

The latest Mojo features 20 pages of tributes to Syd Barrett on the 10th anniversary of his death. Features a page of Copey ranting on about Lucifer Sam which is rather amusing. Free cd featuring 14 modern psych sounds - not played it yet but I can't wait to hear the new Goat track from their forthcoming album!

Right, was wondering what the impetus for the special was. Haven't had the chance to look through it yet. Shop copies are sealed in the envelope package. So not seen content of mag or cd.
Will have to wait until after weekend before I get to look inside.

Picked this up today to while away a train journey and just played the CD. Some great stuff on it. Fav's so far include a killer Cavern Of Anti-matter track feat Sonic Boom, Goat track (which apparently was their last single), Gnooomes and Chemistry Set, though it's all pretty listenable.

Not sure what the deal is with the fairly dull 'prints', but the article by Syd/Rogers sister is quite nice. She thinks he may have had a touch of asperger's, which is why he went off the rails a bit drug wise. I can see what she means, my pa-in-law has the condition and used to drink to excess to be more sociable and also 'drown out' the background hum that most of us filter naturally.

I don't buy Mojo that often, but if you were thinking of picking it up, deffo worth a punt, if only for the groovy CD.

Indeed - it's the most interesting edition of Mojo that I've come across in quite a while, and the freebie CD is excellent. I can see why they packaged it in an envelope.

Yup the Barrett stuff is a good read esp as has been said the article by his sister. Few dullish moments on the cd but more or less good. Loving the Cate Le Bon track - need to hear more of her. That Albert Hoffman song is so corny - don't know if they are serious or what - would fit in well with the Dukes of Stratosphear (but they did Bike Ride To The Moon) - catchy though. I have a bit more faith in Mojo - hope they keep up to this standard in the future!

I have a couple of dull train journeys to do this weekend so might pick up a copy. Have to say the Paul Weller curated disc from last year was surprisingly good.

I bought it, too - but am rather enjoying the more edgy nostalgia of Vive Le Rock magazine. I'd never really been aware of that, strangely. There were a copies on display at some service station I took a breather at, a few days ago. The Damned are its cover stars, with a lovely feature inside. It's a bit of a post punk Shindig kinda thang.

Oops, I seem to have diverted another thread.

Yeah, that Vive Lee Rock Mag is Ok, picked a few up over the years. Used to be another that was similar called 'Artrocker' that was a little more 'yoof' oriented, but had some interesting articles/free CD's. Think that one was born of the 'electro-clash' movement, remember that!

Yes, Artrocker! I'd forgotten about that one.
