RIP Maurice White

Maurice was a damn fine songwriter with a damn fine voice in a damn fine band. I chugged happily along many a time to EW&F. Great concert at Wembley Arena late 80s too. RIP.

Not wholly unexpected but FFS (again). It's the "Gratitude" live album on a loop all day today then. RIP big fella.

Wot he says...and what a fucking year already. Fond memory of seeing EWF supported by the Commodores back in t' '70's. They were tight, tuneful and fun. RIP : (

That is exactly what I was thinking! I missed both of those acts at the time. I remember someone playing the Commodores album with Machine Gun on it at school and not thinking much of it. I was too taken with Watcher of the Skies for a bunch of clean cut blokes in nylon roll necks and funny suits but what do you really know about anything at the age of 12?

Late 70s and early 80s I saw George Benson, Odyssey, Fatback Band, James Brown, Brass Construction, Change and Maze among others but didn't see Parliament or EWF. Bad omissions on my part. The one I really regret missing is The Temptations. Had the chance in 81ish and didn't take it.

Saw Edwin Starr back in about 88/89 here in Newport, only a short set, I think 3 songs with backing tracks but still great. Was a bit funny as Newport's not the most 'cultured' of places and hardly anyone knew who he was but knew the songs. Was a good night that, can't remember the end of it though.
