I think music has always been passed word-of-mouth from fan to fan.. and any effort made on behalf of the actual artists to promote their own stuff usually just results in a loss of credibility among fans.

Also, I don't think many people even listen to music anymore who aren't musicians themselves. Which means you're really just "promoting" yourself to other music guys, who all have their own agenda and will only resent you for existing in the same arena.

So in short, post your links and the musicians resent you, the fans are suspicious of you, and the non-musician-non-fans are disappointed that you're not a youtube video of a dog licking a baby. :)
