Hi Only an occasional poster so I hope its ok to put a link on here. A couple of friends have started a blog, partly as a tribute to Tom Hibberts book The Perfect Collection and partly a reaction to the same records cropping up again and again in the best records of all time lists in Mojo, NME etc. It aims to shine a light on records we feel have fallen through the cracks and deserve wider recognition. Bands reviewed so far include Hugo Largo, Girls At Our Best, Bridget St John, Grant Hart, The Clientele, Band Of Holy Joy, The Distractions, Dadawah, The Fall, the Feelies, Pearls Before Swine, Sparks, The Raincoats, Hope Sandoval, Mercury Rev, Josef k, Blue Aeroplanes, Impressions, Ultra Vivid Scene and Shoes amongst others. http://thenewperfectcollection.com/ Hope theres something there some of you may enjoy. Cheers

You've got eight or nine of my favourite artists there. Would love to hear what a Girls at Our Best fan thinks of Dadawah, or a Josef K fan thinks of Pearls Before Swine. Will definitely have fun scrolling through it in the morning! Thanks for the link.

Pointing people in the direction of records they may not have heard but may love if they get the chance to hear. It might be the only way those of us not directly in making or releasing music can feel that we are "contributing". I always love reading fans views on records they love but I've not heard. Thanks to JC for writing about Armand Schaubroeck. This book "Lost In The Grooves" from 2004 (which compiled reviews from various writers) led me to the music of underground Columbus, Ohio legend Jim Shepard. I'll never be able to repay them for that. http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/0415969980/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1432775230&sr=8-1&pi=AC_SY200_QL40&keywords=lost+in+the+grooves+book&dpPl=1&dpID=51dMiPFx8PL&ref=plSrch And, in that spirit, could I mention two groups who I love, but have not seen mentioned around these parts? https://kitchensfloor.bandcamp.com/album/look-forward-to-nothing Outta Brisbane, Aus. Desperate, raw, real, in short, sharp, punky, tuneful blasts. https://connectionsband.bandcamp.com/album/year-one Columbus, Ohio based. Roots in 84 Nash and Times New Viking. Fans of primo Guided By Voices should dig.

Let's face it, for many of us the mainstream music industry abandoned the creators who pushed boundaries or dared to venture.

Thanks for the feedback. I totally agree with what you say about Unsung. I've been turned on to so many great records through this site, not just Julians reviews but all contributers to the Unsung forum. I'll definitely check out those recommendation Thispoison.
