The Only Ones' Peel sessions are not just great in their own right, but superior to the album versions in their unpolished rawness. The same applies to the Gang of Four's. Fairport Convention's "Top Gear" sessions (as collected on "Heyday") include some great renditions of American folk rock classics that Joe Boyd didn't want them to release on their own records because he thought they should emphasize their Englishness.
