Another thin week, mainly listening to promos in the car… Moster – Inner Earth. More Norwegian prog jazz heaviness, a lot of farting around, but also some nice Crimson-esque moves. Cool Ghouls – A Swirling Fire Burning Through the Rye. The Bright New Sound of Young San Francisco, apparently – ersatz 60s psych say I, don’t these people have anything better to do? Movie Star Junkies – Evil Ways. If I also tell you they’re on a label called Voodoo Rhythm, you can probably guess the rest. Pleasant enough, but won’t be keeping Nick Cave awake at night. Rhyton – Kykeon. Noodly post-rock/psych with some Greek/Middle Eastern appropriations. Worth another listen. Pink Floyd – Atom Heart Mother / Wish You Were Here. Hadn’t heard AHM in ages, perhaps the weakest of the ‘classic’ Floyd albums? WYWH on the other hand is an epoch-defining masterpiece. Jane Weaver – The Silver Globe. Cosmic/space/folk/kraut melange that requires your attention.

Matt Berry - Music For Insomniacs Still loving these two draw out ambient beauties. Part Tubular Bells, Part Orb, Part Krafywerk, Part Matt Berry. Really is a surprising release by MB if your only familiar with his jazz funk/folkier sides. 1+2 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KNiYOcA6xpY Kawabata Makoto - Inui 4 Probably my fav on the 'Inui' series, Ryo has seriously mellow vibes throughout ala Tangs, ARP, Matthew David etc... great for drifting and letting your head stretch out. Ryo - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GKzxVk4DZ5Q Cabaret Voltaire - Mix Up The older I get, the more I've come to realise how strange these early Cab's records are. They really sound like nothing around these days. Their use of unsettling sounds induce a feeling of claustropobia, and all that reverb and delay and distortion can cause real unease. These 'tunes' could be the musings of a alien paranoid zombie. What was in the water of Sheffield at this time? So many cool bands almost (Clock DVA, Human League, Hula to name a few) all 'of a mind'. It was a grand Government experiment in cold war terror I tell you! Still love em' though. Mix Up - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l3Uh3feUCZk&list=PL-YTNO6FYzcHn5RxNIvz2j0N0I3_wrU7f LA Hell Gang - Thru Me Again Mate sent me a DL of this from his vinyl, didn't listen to it for ages, forgot who he said it was and by the time I did pick it out, was conviced It was gonna be a hip hop album (not my fav music it has to be said). But.... stone me, this is a great record. No different in sound/vibes to early BRMC, Black Angles, The Warlocks or The Darkside (remember them?), but well executed and highly listenable. Superb Stuff, Recommended! What You Want You Got It - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7qkwRUq8FV8 So High - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Eru5o1eKM8g&list=RDEru5o1eKM8g Inside My Fall - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z9uFGPnGiHI The Heads - Vertigo Swill Another DL from a me mate (as I could never afford to buy it http://www.discogs.com/Heads-Vertigo-Swill/release/3231643 ). Collection of oddities/out-takes from 1994-2002. Listened to it several times this week. For me, bit hit and miss this one from the old 'Heads'. Depending on mood, I can be really into it, or just not give a shit. One Track Rock Pt.3 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r-Qgo_aqN78 Chrome - Feel It Like A Scietist. First record in 12 years, and what a stormer! Not bought it yet, found an old stream online, but deffo on the 'to get' list. http://consequenceofsound.net/2014/07/stream-chromes-feel-it-like-a-scientist-their-first-album-in-12-years/ Gulp - I Want To Dance/Season Sun Great 'new' band from one time SFA bassman Guto Pryce and partner Lindsey Leven. Saw these support Phantom Band the other week and was pleasantly surprised by their sunshine psyche pop. Not too disimilar to stuff like Soundcarriers, Broadcast, Cate Le Bon, SFA and Stereolab et al, but some nice hooks and melodies in the tunes. Being a big SFA nerd, had a nice chat to them at the gig, really nice peeps. Really come to love tha album too. Vast Space - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vcgMiyv05Tc Seasons Sun - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fi78yg1UihI Clean and Serene - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ymitns2ejqc Game Love - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2jBMAPx_Pdo Punk 45 compilation Vol:3 Sick On You - Various Some great unkown to me bands/songs on these comp's alongside many of the usual suspects. Nice mix up, like a punkier cousin to the 'Deutsche electronische Musisck' comps on Soul Jazz. Hollywood Brats - Sick On You - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3O_0wyXvTTU Jack Ruby- Hit and Run - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wb732tf2wNc Mirrors - Wild Child - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VDcROHOd0ZQ Zolar X - Space Age Love - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x7FxeGDNSlI Fat White Family - Champagne Holocaust. Scored a promo for cheaps as I thought the band name was pretty funny. It's a pretty good record. Soundwise - part Beat Happening, part Earl Brutus, part Pre New. Great littlepost punk garage record, superb daft lyricxs too. It's Raining In Your Mouth - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=20bk3IVM0pY Cream of The Young - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r95X2tXd8b0 Heaven on Earth - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nl_WTOu7yVw Live SXSW - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QOZFFysmFHU Pere Ubu - Carnival of Souls. Another great PU album. If you've enjoyed their 'Why I Hate Women' and David Thomas' 'Surf's Up, 18 Monkies...' period, your in for a treat. Been loving this all week. Hope I've not missed the tour, this will be great live. Golden Surf II (live) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qHfZovOsXlI Visions of the Moon - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7vgtcHFD5o8 Dr Faustus (Live) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ww-TnR8UDV4 White Manna - Live Frequencies Managed to score a vinyl of this superb live set from the Liverpool Psych Fest. Part Stooges, Part Hawkwind, all gggreat! Ace album cover too (would luuuurrrrve a T-Shirt of that cover.) https://cful.bandcamp.com/album/live-frequencies Acid Head (Live) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BTp3x6ZXmXE Dunes (Live) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MshT5n6U6N8 Keep Your Lantern Burning (Live) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2rlnBRYsyv0 Other stuff Saw Amazing Snakeheads live .....gig of the year (and there have been some damn good ones this year already). I Dream Of Wires (Hardcore Edition) DVD (borrowed from Lovefilm/Amazon Prime Home rental or whatever it is now?) If you luuuurve Modular Synthesis (And I do, but could NEVER afford or really justify owning one) this is for you. Synth Porn to the max. 240 minutes of analogue sweeps, bloops, and growls with some interesting histories and interviews with various progenators. Mostly from a US perspective, but you do get Daniel Miller, Vince Clarke and Chris Carter in the mix too. Bits and bobs to view here... http://www.youtube.com/user/IDOWdocumentary Anyways..... Have a great week.
