Rare Tokyo Kid Brothers LP online
Sep 19, 2014, 09:05
Those heavily into the theatrical Japrock sensibility of JA Seazer will no doubt be excited to know that there is finally a rip of an early Tokyo Kid Brothers release available online. The album in question is "Songs of the Story of Eight Dogs," from 1971.

My initial impressions are that this is a low-fi esoteric album with considerable charm, though definitely not as fried as Seazer's stuff. But considering how no early TKB stuff has been made available (aside from "Throw Away the Books..."), I thought I should alert all heads to this download.
Now, if anyone has a rip of the original "Golden Bat," my life would be complete...

Awesome! Thank you! I've been wanting to hear this for years. Throw Away Your Books... bloomed from a weird but OK soundtrack/opera thing into a righteous, full-blooded collection of liberation anthems (with an occasional proto-punk groove a'happenin'), and Shuji Terayama became my favourite director in the process.

Would love to hear this fabled rec, too. The Broadway version is as toothless as a blue whale. OK, it has a fairly pleasant folky-cabaret vibe, but I think I like the Kids the most when they're lo-fi and bristling with anarchic elation. I guess they got old. This album has that quality in spades. A thousand salaams for starting the thread!

I'm still confused as to whether I've heard the early 1971 Golden Bat album (Black with Statue of Liberty) or not. Someone sent me what they said was a cdr of it but it sounded like it was from the late 70s/early 80s, not at all worth a second listen.

Would dearly love to hear the Returning Golden Bat on King Records: http://www.discogs.com/artist/832429-Tokyo-Kid-Brothers seems it's so damn rare no samples have ever made it online.

Anyone got this one? http://www.discogs.com/artist/1157841-Kyokubakan

Returning Golden Bat is finally getting a CD release later this month, wonder if it'll be worth the wait? I've been wanting to hear it for years. http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/product/FJ-103

Story of the 8 Dogs also coming out on the same day.

Also seems that The Moon is East, The Sun is West (Live in London 1972) got a CD release at the end of last year which totally passed me by. Listening to it (a vinyl rip) on youtube a lot of the tracks have been cut short I guess to fit a single LP, anyone know if the CD release restores them? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vo1-vf_oDrk

Thanks for the head's up! "Returning Golden Bat" might not be The "Golden Bat," but it's still from 1971 and was a double album, to boot. It should be an exciting listen.

Yes, 4 album side length tracks on the Returning Golden Bat 2LP sounds right up my street.

Further to my earlier post I'm not sure it's the Story of Eight Dogs that is also being released it's this album here: http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/product/FJ-105 and has 2 bonus tracks which are from the Dutch "Story of Eight Dogs"

Please report back! I've been trying to get to the bottom of this for years. Mainly what I want to know is which one is the gem, 'Returning Golden Bat' or the 1971 'Golden Bat' (I've heard the 1977 version and agree with the sentiments others have posted above!). Or are they both gems? I'm currently suspecting that when people have recommended 'Golden Bat' they are really talking about 'Returning Golden Bat' which is curiously named because it seems to be the earlier one.
