I was quite pleased to see Guy Garvey chucking in his two penneth worth, if only cos it kind of vindicated what I'd thought about bits of Elbow's "Build a Rocket Boys" album (the one that followed the BIG one). I still maintain that there are elements of that album that sound like Kate Bush if she was a burly, northern bloke rather than the winsome queen of ethereal wispiness.

Undoubtedly Kate Bush is a very talented musician, songwriter, dancer and arranger of music. I never liked her voice though. No range to it. To me she sounds like Minnie Mouse on helium, vocalwise.

Personally I think Elizabeth Fraser was or possibly is a better singer.

Superb and surpasses, I think.

Who was the identikit, NME type critic slagging off Aeriel for sounding like Tears For Fears?

Looked v familar.

Served to remind me why I have barely looked at a music paper other than my daughters' copies of Kerrang since 1992.

God, I usually like him politically, but when he goes on about music I lose the will to live by and large. And I'm not taking advice in what to listen to from someone who still looks like they've always wanted to be in Oasis for the last 15 years or so.

Quite. Almost everyone born before 1990 thinks their era of teenage pop thrills was more important than anyone else's but when you read his stuff it's like he skipped the pubescent rush of young adult rock discovery and went straight to being a middle aged Britpop bore. I think Rhian E Jones is much better on that period. Less invested, more insightful, not so in love with all that faux Mod Lad nonsense.

Kate Bush (as good as she is) couldn't hold a candle to 'Head Over Heels/Sunburst and Snowblind' by Cocteau Twins. An amazing thing. Done with just a few folks from 4AD.

Annie Clark should not be talking about Kate Bush or David Byrne in such pontification. She should be talking about..THIS!

And possibly mention Kim and Kelley Deal.

And how people of any determination should try and get on!
