Metallica have sounded terrible every time I've seen them, first time was just as they started playing stadiums at Wembley Arena which was generally regarded as an echo chamber anyway and I thought they're going to have to up their game is they stay at this level, next coupla times it was even worse , finally gave up after a show at Newcastle where the combined mush & echo was married up with probably the most vile audience I've ever encountered.

Angelwitch supporting Uriah Heep in 1980 was terrible, a kind of washing machine roar combined with a biscuit tin thump

Lords of the New Church mid eighties in London sounded terrible except for 1 point about 10 yards back and to the right of the stage which led to a weird audience all grouped in a big lump whilst the rest was sparsely covered in those too drunk/stupid/talking to each other to notice
