Bowie - Toy
The album that was supposed to come out before "Heathen" happened. Mainly it's a "Pin Ups Mark 2" but this time it is Bowie covering his own near-misses, lost classics, flops and cast-offs. Plus a handful of new songs. I like bits of all the post Tin Machine releases but ironically this is the one that I like to listen to most as a complete album. Highly recommended if you can still find a stream or download.

Swans - To be kind

Trad Gras Och Stenar - S/T

Hapshash and the coloured coat - S/T. I think squid recommended this and quite enjoyable it is - more so than the solo heavy metal kids album, anyway.

That subterraneans album by Dylan Howe which wasn't quite up to the title track. Too much jazz piano for my liking.

Ziguri - kolsch, Schickert, Erdenreich. Not bad I suppose.

Gaz Coombes - Here come the Bombs. Welcome solo album from the Supergrass frontman

V/A - Godshaker

The Souljazz Orchestra - Inner Fire

Data Shock - Keine Oase in Sicht

King Biscuit Time - First 2 EP's plus Black Gold (Steve Mason side project and moniker before he went all eponymous

David Morris (Red River Dialect)@ NO 8 Cafe, Launceston - 14.6. 2014

Midlake @ Exeter Lemon Grove, 31.10.10

Laughing Windows - Studio Sessions 07-08

*Oh yeah, Eno & Hassell - Fourth World Musics. Not particularly exceptional, I felt. But then what do I know?

Jennifer Gentle - Valende/ The Midnight Room/ A New Astronomy.
Bands name gives it away really, but if you can imagine an alternate reality, where Syd didn't flip his wig, and the Floyd stayed on their garage psych explorations with the odd Small Faces influence and you've got Italian nut jobs Jennifer Gentle. Pal gave me these as he'd been given them and they didn't float his boat. I think they're fab. Valende is my fav' of the three albums, the track 'Circles of Sorrow' is just lush.
I wonder if some of this stuff influenced Broadcast's later output?

Adam Buxton - Radio 6 Bowie Special Thingy
Listened to this a couple of times over the weekend, choice Bowie tunes and some hilarious Bowie themed comedy moments to boot. AB does a spot on Bowie voice impersonation.

Air - Music for Museum
Beautiful ambient noodlings from our fav' French electro prog pioneers.
Gorgeous double heavy weight vinyl in gatefold sleeve too.
Album for sale here.... http://www.vfeditions.com/product/view/164
sampler on youtube.

Grumbling Fur - Preternaturals
Streamed this several times since stumbling upon the Quietus taster. Really getting under my skin, though I guess if you don't enjoy Depeche Mode inflected electronic pop, it may not be your thang.
Session version of Secrets of The Earth (Looks like Dylan Moran might have joined the band as singer ;)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BxiSLinu3z8

Liminanas - Costa Blanca
Great French garagey psych pop thang. Not a spacey/ krauty as some of their other stuff, enjoyable nonetheless though.

Momus - Bibliotek
Been digging Momus' later left field pop outpourings muchly of late. This has been this weeks disc on repeat.
Erase...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MkKh0dOi_Fc
Shunned....https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yk7scWgF6GI

The Flaming Lips - Second Cassette Demo
Early four track demo from 83 released last year on cassette (obviously!).
Love the first track 'Theme Tune'. Kinda channeling the Doors and Bunnymen in equal measure.

That's about it. Hope you dodged the rain and have a great week.

Jethro Tull – A Passion Play / Château d'Hérouville sessions. Steven Wilson has done a great job remixing this unfairly maligned classic. And having always previously regarded the Chateau D’isaster tapes as not much more than a curio, Wilson’s mix and re-sequencing has transformed them into a worthy album in their own right.

Gentle Giant – The Power And The Glory. Another Wilson job. Don’t think I’ve ever listened to a GG album before, and for me, this captures some of what’s great about classic prog, and a lot of what’s wrong with it: some fine instrumental passages with great playing Vs unnecessarily obtuse arrangements and ludicrously precious singing throughout.

Fire! Orchestra – Enter. Kitchen-sink jazz/soul/prog/rock melange from Rune Grammofon all-star squad. Hard to digest in one sitting, but there’s lots of tasty ingredients (though I could do without the five minutes of what sounds like various members straining on the toilet).

Seven That Spells – The Men From Dystopia / Superautobahn. Catching up with the back catalogue of these Croatian purveyors of excellent heavy/classy space rock. Both these albums also feature Kawabata Makoto of AMT. You like music that relentlessly builds on a theme without ever getting boring? Then you’ll love STS: http://seventhatspells.bandcamp.com/album/men-from-dystopia

Swans – To Be Kind. Well, the first hour anyway. It’s undeniably powerful, but it feels a bit like an endurance test too.

Grumbling Fur – Preternaturals. Warmed to this on second listening, though still a bit insubstantial for my tastes.

Irmler/Leibezeit – Flut

Paus – Clarao

VA – Rough Guide to Desert Blues
