Have finally made it to the end of this awesome tome (no longer having a daily commute means that I now average the meagre sum of 20 pages of written (print) material a week before my eyelids start getting heavy - I blame children, the internet etc etc.) - has anybody else read it?
I must say that I haven't previously been a big fan of Bob Stanley's writing (or St Etienne for that matter), but this is an incredible piece of sustained music criticism, which is often very funny too. You could spend years going through all the various stuff he flags.
I particularly liked his description of metal as 'a state of mind' rather than a genre - though he loses points for referring to Black Sabbath's Tommy Iommi...
