July 1968 lp for RSD
Apr 19, 2014, 02:54
i've been sick so today i went through a list of releases a local record store will have tomorrow for RSD and i came across the title July S/T. It is indeed the great 1968 psychedelic record by the group July. Someone made me a tape of their only two records ages ago and i have no idea where it went and haven't heard it in years. To my knowledge July's stuff has never been widely available unlike other underground bands whose material end up on sundazed or Rhino. This record is probably the best thing to be released on record store day as far as i know. I'd also like the Cardinal release and the Zombies O & O re-release but the July record......thats the one. Only thing that bothers me is that it looks like a mono. I'd rather have a stereo myself. here is one of their better tracks.

just read that even though it came out in 1968 it was never mixed in stereo.....Also i think that was their only record that came out back then. Some demos came out in the late 90s called "the second of july" which was side 2 of that tape i had and somehow lost. damn it......

It's superb. I have the cd re-release. A genuine overlooked psych classic. They evolved into the also superb Jade Warrior, whose
earlier psychedelic period is very similar. Definitely worth checking out. There's so many wonderful unsung albums from the classic British psych period. If you haven't already, check out Kaleidoscope, Andwella's Dream, Nirvana, Skip Bifferty etc.

thanks for the tips. i was lucky in the mid 90s when someone who worked for Bell records came in with some vinyl to sell to the record store i worked at which allowed me to get the first Nirvana record. I never thought to look them up on youtube and never heard their second and 3rd album. Love Suite is a pretty weird song off the 3rd one. I need to get some of these reissues. Also never listened to Jade Warrior .

No problem. I can seriously recommend Jade Warrior. Early to mid period. Psychedelia to ambient prog. Wonderful stuff!

It is indeed classic psych. I have been giving it loads of plays lately. The cd is available as part of a budget mini album cd UK psychedelia pack along with 4 others (Yardbirds, Gods, Tomorrow and Idle Race) minus the bonus material.
