First quiet weekend and therefore soundtracks post for a while!

Dead Sea Apes & Black Tempest - The sun behind the sun. Like others have said, v good. More emerges on each listen too. Ordered the new Black Tempest so looking forward to that!

Afrirampo - We are uchu no ko. Loving this - pure joy. Japanese female duo (guitar and drums, both on vocals, duets, call-response etc) giving it 110% all the way through in a strange post-punk free rock hybrid going into beautiful tunes at times. Always on the edge and seem to be loving every moment - it's pretty infectious stuff.

The Skull Defekts - The Temple. Been playing this for a few weeks now. Really enjoying it.

Causa Sui - Euporie Tide. Some great moments on this.

Gunslingers - Massacre-Rock Deviant Inquisitors. Loving this - one-sided white vinyl, excellent quality. One-take recording, 4-track, analog, tape... sounds fantastic. Not unlike Afrirampo in attitude i.e. giving it all, on the edge.

Mainliner - Revelation Space. Heavy guitar from Kawabata Makoto, with some great riffs. Like the vocals too - adds to the atmosphere of the record.

And finally, I've been investigating a Berlioz box set I borrowed from my dad. On heavy rotation for the last few weeks has been the epic spiritual choral pieces Requiem and Te Deum, this week I also listened to Faust and Romeo and Juliet. Just brilliant use of the orchestra's sound, with great space in the music too. Pretty violent stuff in places as well. Apparently the first great composer not to have been a talented musician himself - and he saw that as an advantage.

Wooden Wand & The Briarwood Virgins - Briarwood
Tesseract - Altered State
Arabrot - st
Earthling Society - Zodiak

The Nightwatch - ST. Found this accidentally when looking for something else. It's a mix of swingin', proggy jazz with acoustic emphasis, strings, violins etc, but the odd riffy, metal interjection too. Sort of if Stephane Grappelli joined King Crimson. I like! A name-your-price download on bandcamp.

Eat Lights Become Lights - Modular Living
Amberian Dawn - Re-Evolution.
The Algorithm - Polymorphic Code
Wort - Worts n All
Captain Beyond - ST
Melt Yourself Down - ST
Return to Forever - Hymn to the Seventh Galaxy.
Black Tempest - Arkana

Mystery Band - Mystery Album. Kind of instrumental post rock/metal with a prominent violin. I like it, but as yet, don't know who it is! I went into Vinyl Exchange earlier in the week for a rummage through the promos boxes and found this cd with a lavishly illustrated card sleeve but with no info on it. And the cd inside is inscribed with an occult heptagram with various alchemical style names and numbers dotted therein, but no band name or album title. Anyhoo, I asked the nice staff if they knew what it was (I liked the art) and they said no idea. Then one of 'em says "Here, seeing as you don't know what it is, and I don't know what it is, you can just have it" and took off the £3 price sticker and stuck it in my paw! V kind. I'll have to get a bit Sherlock on its ass to find out what it is now.

Have a nice week.x

Carter Tutti Void - Transverse
Oh yes. I love this, been listening to it all week. Techno with squwodgey bits.

Bevis Frond - White Numbers
Possibly my favourite album of the year. Such brilliant songs.

Wolf People - Fain

Pretty Things - Parachute
How has this passed me by for so long? Wonderful.

White Hills - So You Are...So You'll Be and the Timeless Tracks For Aural Pleasure bonus 12"
Absolutely love the 12", particularly the 1 track side - False Revolution Toward A Slick Mirror, which rocks my socks.

P.S. Many many thanks to all those who have been saying nice things about the recent Black Tempest releases, it is wonderful to get such positive feedback :)
Grumbling Fur - Glynnaestra
This has grown on me immensley. Sort of Eno/Electronica thing. Quite lovely in parts, fascinating in others. Haven't heard their other stuff, but will need to investigate.

Pelt - Effigy

Mike Gangloff - Poplar Hollow
Bloke from Pelt solo album which is startlingly great. I paid for the album/download on Bandcamp coz I loved the Jake Blanchard sleeve (one of my favourite artists, also did the Effigy cover), but I really rate the music too. Great stuff.

P.S. many many thanks to all those who've been saying such positive things about the recent Black Tempest releases, it makes it all worthwhile :)
