Good news for fans of the first comp, it's getting a sequel: "various - deutsche elektronische musik 2 - experimental german rock and electronic music 1972-83" Roughtrade blurb: "the double cd pack comes in unique box-edition with large booklet and excellent extensive new sleevenotes as well as lots of exclusive photos. soul jazz records' new deutsche electronische musik 2 is their second voyage into the world of krautrock and german electronic music from the 1970s and early 1980s. this double cd pack (with over 2 hours of amazing music!) features a stunning line-up of seminal german groups: can, faust, popul vuh, neu, cluster, amon duul ii, la dusseldorf, as well as a host of lesser known and more obscure groups and artists such as agitation free, broselmachine, niagara and many more! as well as the original pioneers, deutsche electronische musik 2 also features many of the second wave of german electronic artists and groups from the late 70s and early 80s (daf, asmus tietchens, rolf trostel) who successfully connected new wave, minimal synth and a european post-punk avant-gardism with the earlier more established krautrock pioneers who began at the start of the 70s".

DEUTSCHE ELEKTRONISCHE MUSIK 2 EXPERIMENTAL GERMAN ROCK AND ELECTRONIC MUSIK 1971-83 Disc 1 1. A.R. & Machines - Globus 2. Can - Halleuwah 3. Roedelius - Le Jardin 4. Michael Rother - Karussell 5. Popul Vuh - Der Grosse Krieger 6. Michael Hoenig - Sun and Moon 7. Agitation Free - You Play For Us Today 8. D.A.F. - Co Co Pino 9. Harald Grosskopf - Emphasis 10. Amon duul 2 - A Morning Excuse 11. Achim Reichel & Machines - As If I Had Seen All This Before 2. Gila - Sundance Chant 3. NEU! - Isi 4. Pyrolator - Danger Cruising 5. Sergius Golowin -Die Weisse Alm 6. You - Electric Day 7. Faust - Krautrock Loved and listened a lot to the first one. This one looks even less "krautrocky" with more NDW and "Berlin School" tracks (and since anyway I have almost all of the great krautrock albums, this is fine for me!). For what I know i cannot spot a single track that is weak (good chooses on the Popol Vuh and Golowin tracks, but really, you can't go wrong with them). I would have loved some late '70 Ashra or Schultze or Tangerine Dream but I understand (licensing issues aside) there is too much good stuff and a decision was probably made to skip sidelong tracks.

Same here. I also own most of the classic albums was but was pleasantly surprised to find that there was enough stuff I didn't have on the first one (about half) to justify buying. This one I only own about a quarter of, so will definitely be buying. Thanks for the heads-up mintgp.

That's just made my day. Loved the original, was a great comp to slip on and chill too. Can't wait to get me mits on Volume 2. Mind you, can't see anything on the Soul Jazz site, maybe they are keeping it under their hat. The 'Berlin Wall Of Sound 61/89' comp covers similar ground, made as a 2 CD 'Mix' it has a few of the usual suspects, but enough other stuff to be interesting. Mind you, though Young Gods were Swiss, but hey, what do I know? Tracklist Here... Disc 1 West Side The Young Gods - Salamon Song Nina Hagen - Born in Xixax Agitation Free - Rücksturz Malaria - Your Turn To Run Amonn Düül II - A Morning Excuse Irmin Schmidt/Bruno Spoerri - Rapido De Noir Can - Thief Neu! - After Eight Electric Sandwich - China Cluster - Hollywood II Nico - Reich Der Träume Brainticket - The Space Between Jane - Love Song Edgar Frose - A Dali-esque Sleep Fuse Harmonia - When Shade Was Born Disc 2 East Side Faust - The Sad Skinhead Harmonia - Vamos Companeros Neu! - Lila Angel Die Krupps - Wahre Arbeit, Wahrer Lohn Kraan - Die Maschine MDK - Berlin 36 Cluster - Caramel Die Tödliche Doris - Der Astronaut Und Der Kosmos Palais Schaumburg - Telefon The Front - Polaroid Liaisons Dangereuses - Dupont Einstürzende Neubauten - Yu-Gung Nina Hagen - Cosma Shiva The Young Gods - Speak Low Can - Future Days

On a similar note... Who's That Man: A Tribute To Conny Plank This from a recordstore email... "Conny Plank was a name anyone who grew up with cutting-edge music in the 1970s and early 1980s was bound to be familiar with and this new box setshows the early work of the legendary German Krautrock producer. The phrase "Produced by Conny Plank" could be found on dozens of record covers. Many of these albums - from bands like Kraftwerk, Neu!, La Düsseldorf, Kluster, Michael Rother, Ash Ra Tempel, Scorpions, Brian Eno, Can, Ultravox, DAF, Devo, Eurythmics - are now considered classics. This compilation is presented in a lush 4CD box with extensive booklet and features many unreleased tracks. CD1 and 2 features originals (where Conny was involved), CD3 is comprised of remixes of original songs (remixers include Walls, EYE from Boredoms, Kreidler, Automat, Einstürzende Neubauten, amongst others). Those two young gods tracks are from their great Young Gods play Kurt Weill album.. The only album containing tracks where Franz sings in German IIRC. It was released after they played a Kurt Weill Festival, much to the annoyance of Kurt Weills estate apparently. So there is kind of a german link I suppose. 'Salomon song' is in the original German, 'Speak Low' is in english. But Speak low is probably the weakest track on that Kurt Weill album, should have gone with 'Seeräuber Jenny' or 'Alabama Song'.

Fuck yeah, Kosmische Musik is one of the few genres that is both original and accessible. I have never heard a Kosmische album that I didn't like or at the very least respect.

I really like the Pyrolator track 'Vostok' that Maconie played last night, from 'Neuland' album, 2011. I might check that out when funds allow.

Certainly one of the most intoxicatingly perverse, sick and hypnotic bands in the entire electropunk / EBM galaxy.
