Don't know if he did sessions as a leader? Strangely enough heard about this just the other week. Ed and Wadada Leo Smith http://www.dustedmagazine.com/reviews/6154 Not heard it but its getting great reviews. Live recording from 25 years ago that only seems to have surfaced recently.

I think I remember a friend mentioning that he still plays live quite often. I didn't even know he was alive. I'd sell a child to be able to go to one of those shows. Not my own, just a child. If you ever hear news of him touring the UK, start a thread, please!!!

Nifty! W.L. Smith's last album had some mighty fine stuff on it.

Thanks for all the info Dog, and also everyone else who contributed to this thread. I've got a huge amount of information about wonderful sounds I'd never heard before, and it's going to provide weeks of discovering even more life changing sounds. Namaste!

Right. The clostest he'll be to our shores, this year, will be Nice, France: http://www.nicejazzfestival.fr/ There's a flippin' good line up for this including Herbie Hancock, Pat Metheny, Dr. John and Rodrigo Y Gabriela.

Blimey! ( " What do you mean you're stuck! Get down that chimney at once! A nice man from a Russian Pharmeceutical Experimental Laboratory is coming round for tea! Tell you sister to stop dragging the cess pit as well! ")

Don't know if he did sessions as a leader? Archie Shepp is on one of the Haden duets albums too. Haden's solo stuff and some of his collaborations with ECM type artists and Pat Meth are a bit um-ah (or should that be "Ah Um"?) but the second Ornette alumni band album "Old & New Dreams", which has a great (possible definitive) version of Lonely Woman on it, is absolutely a must-own. http://www.allmusic.com/album/old-and-new-dreams-ecm-r136564

At 80, we should be thankful he's still out there touring, at all. Now, if that isn't a Vybik Jon baiting statement, I don't know what is!
