The late, amazing vocalist from Peru... was known in the 50s, mostly.
Check out the tracks... her range is amazing but she goes way beyond opera... her singing is psychedelic (I swear Gong must be fans).
And it's not just the range. She does things with her voice that I've never heard anyone do, at least not as well.

There was debate over whether she was actually Amy Camus from (I think) Brooklyn who'd reversed her name. That wouldn't take away from her multi-octave range ability, just the backstory hype about her being descended from Inca royalty.

My grandad had a set of 78s of her Voice of the Xtabay in album form as in several one track per side 78s in a book-like package. i later discovered that you shouldn't use record cleaning spray on 78s on one of these discs. Probably unprotected Shellac or something instead of finished vinyl.

That set contained one of my favourite tracks by her 'Monos' that for some reason Rev-ola left off the compilation based on the original set.
Always meant to put a band together and cover that song, had an infectious rhythm. Unfortunately never did.

She appears in some 50s film about hunting for el dorado in Peru. Not sure what the film was, just remember her, presumably playing the peasant with heart of gold love interest and singing a couple of songs.
