...cheers - though it got a bit sour between the artists and musicians involved (as it always does with these sort of things). Need someone like Alan Sugar on board a project like that to kick some arse when the egos kick in!

Did they play the paean to wilson thing at the london show?

Yes, that was all they did (not quite the same running order and possibly not all the songs). We saw Duke String Quartet first as well. I love John Metcalfe's contribution to the track "Brother", which is my favourite from the set at the moment.

Can't imagine Alan Sugar taking to Vini. "Thank you for coming to our funny little concert" ... "You're fired".

yeah I like Metcalfe's playing on that track. Love the redone Royal Infirmary track too and also the first track. It's a great album.

I would have liked a few more Wilson samples!

Coil - Scatology/Unnatural History I, II + III/Music To Play In The Dark (Volumes One and Two)/Constant Shallowness Leads To Evil
Like with the passing of John Peel, it's 5 years since John Balance passed away (nov. 13th), doesn't seem that long either, so I had a bit of a 'Coil-A-Thon'.
Very strangely, the night before JB died, I was helping our Mr. Clarkson and co. with a Burst Couch night, this featured performances from some of JB's friends/associates- Colin Potter, Karl Blake, John Everall and Andrew Liles,
At the soundcheck, conversation turned to JB and stories of his alcohol intake etc., the next day, myself and everyone involved in the previous nights event, were shocked to hear of the sad news.
I've always loved his vocals, he had a really rich sounding voice, talented musician too.

Caravan - s/t
A very unsung debut LP.

Brian Eno - Music For Films
Great to hear this album again.
I remember some of these tracks being used to good effect in some TV drama featuring Patrick McGoohan!

Peter Wyngarde - When Sex Rears Its Inquisitive Head
Utterly deranged, bizarre easy listening- a true lost british classic and not for the faint-hearted

Ennio Morricone - Crime And Dissonance/High
It's so great that they're putting all these obscure soundtracks out, every one is a real treat.

Faust - 1st/So Far/The Faust Tapes/71 Minutes/Ravvivando
I couldn't resist playing some Faust after seeing a playful and mischeivious Jean-Herve and Zappi cavorting on that Krautrock documentary.
(Pity about Cluster man Mobius, doing a bit of latent moaning about Eno - what a sour kraut!)

Take care all

Hawkwind. PXR5. Love this album, doesn't sound like a band falling apart which was the reality of the situation. Simon House is inspired on "Robot". That organ demands that it be played loud. No wonder Bowie led him astray. Probably should have been the last Hawkwind album.

Ted Nugent. Free For All. Him evil I know. Him also idiot savant. This album is ace. He never took drugs? All of his albums (this one in particular) sound like he is speeding his tits off.

Solarized. Neanderthal Speedway. Nothing to set it apart from other stoner bands.

Stephen Malkmus. Real Emotional Trash. There was a comment on this board about the gap between an artists tastes and their own output. On this album Steve is bridging the gap between himself and the Groundhogs.

William Elliott Whitmore. Animals in the Dark. Sentimental tosh. Hate it, hate it, hate it. "Lifetime Underground" makes me cry... Hate myself, hate myself, hate myself. Sentimental old fool.

The Wipers. Land Of The Lost. Came between Over The Edge and Follow Blind and sounds like the missing link between them. My new fave Wipers album.

The Liars. They Were Wrong, So We Drowned. Genius. Everyone should own everything they have recorded.

Ha ha ha!, that's fucking great. No, I hadn't seen it before. Nice to see Chris Nagle (looking about 12) and no surprise that Hannett's favourite noise is the snare - could have chosen hi-hat, I suppose.

I have no idea what the unwary Granada viewer would have made of that exchange at all.

"what's a parametric mid range when it's at home for the weekend"
...that could have been used on the DC album!
