Beware the music think piece with no byline.

Rock and roll deserves better writing but the best we have are Nick Kent, who hasn't written much that's truly essential since 1991, Ian Macdonald (dead), Lester Bangs (dead), Cope and Dave Bidini (who has written the best book about what it means to be in a band but mainly writes about ice hockey). The UK broadsheets have no one who can really write and have the music in their blood. No one. They all have half an eye on a gig as a tv columnist. So it's all ironic detachment and no viscera. Why would I care what you idiots think about anything if you clearly don't care yourselves?

I mourn the day that the "quality press" and the BBC started covering rock and roll on a daily basis. Lifestyle pop culture journalists like Miranda Sawyer have done more to screw things up than any major label. Stop trying to entertain the guests at some imaginary Hoxton dinner party with your bon mots and write about music with heart from the fucking heart.

Sorry just had to get that off my chest!
