Been going thru major Komische listening jag, Cosmic Jokers, later TD, Ash Ra have got me seeking out other spacy stuff. Pinhas /Heldon looks interesting, any recommendations on them or any thing else spacy. Thanks.

the two LPs I would single out for reccomendation (1 Heldon / 1 solo Pinhas) would be: Heldon - Heldon - IV "Agneta Nilson" (Urus Records, 1974?) - lots of great burbling moog'n'mellotron meditations, coupled with a some funkier guitar-led tracks. and Richard Pinhas - East West (Pulse, 1980?) - probably his most varied solo outing - frosty, glacial electronics meets warped avant-trance and some Tange-like synth workouts. A few tracks sound remarkably like Low-period Bowie. Also includes "Ruitor" which IMHO is one of the most beautiful pieces of electronic music ever recorded. lots of people rate the late seventies Heldon stuff - Stand By and Interface, but I found them lacking and rather pedestrian. whereas the very early LP's I have not heard - but Im told they owe a significant stylistic debt to the first two King Crimson Lps.

Lard Free - I'm Round about Midnight is probably the best French space rock album.

What I heard by them didn't impress me at all.

I think Heldon's Agneta Nilsson, Un Rêve Sans Conséquence, Interface, and Stand By are all really good/almost great, although it took me repeated listens to realize that. I think maybe Stand By is my favorite. If you can dig Magma's De Futura, I think you will like Stand By. One criticism of Heldon would be that it has a clear academic coldness to it; none of Heldon grabs me emotionally like Krautrock. That being said, maybe there is a place in one's record collection for intellectual detachment?

Agree totally, have tried repeatedly with Heldon but can not get into them. Lard free are a completely different kettle of fish, don't be put off by the first album (the red one with a knife) which is quite jazzy, Round About Midnight is pure space.
