Never saw them, but love the Beware The Weakling Lines single. A mate of mine sang backing vocs on their Peel session!

My brother knew them. I think they were at University together or something. Think I saw them in Birmingham playing with the Playn Jayn. Stevo

Prick Up Your Ears was one of the great indie singles of the 80s.

The guy who's posted here a couple of times is singer Derek Hammond (with the username DJ Hamtana). He posted a very nice thank-you message about my review of their compilation here : http://www.headheritage.co.uk/unsung/review/1218 I did once seem them live, at Fetcham Riverside CLub with Marc Riley and the Creepers. They did a pretty blistering set, expecially considering how disinterested most of the sudience seemed.

I remember the Playn Jayn too. They sued to play the Riverside Club (as mentuioned above) frequently enough for me to have seen them three times as well. Think there may have been drug or alcohol problems in the ranks though, as they used to cancel a lot of bookings.

Think he used to write for the nme under that name too. Cottage Industry and Crimplene Seed Lifestyle were always my favourites. Got those somewhere in the archive - will have to dig them out. Didn't they start off on Marc Riley's 'In Tape' label? Had that guitar sound a bit like the early Fall. 8)

still got me "Bumper Book of Yeah Yeah Noh" - unfairly dismissed as Fall-copyists imho
