On average, that's probably about right. Some bands' peak work fits into one album and one year, though (Jesus & Mary Chain being a perfect example).

No offence, but I think that's bollocks really, zphage! I'm struggling to think of many artists who have made seven *great* albums (as opposed to seven good or even very good albums).
I was a big Jam fan, but there's absolutely no way they made seven great albums. For a start, they only six proper albums, one of which - The Gift - was pretty rubbish overall.
