'A Particularly Interesting Local History, compiled by Paul Morley...'

A three CD set of Manchester & Liverpool tracks from 1976 to 1984. Worth investing in, if only to fill the odd gap in the old record collection.

Personally, I'd have chosen a couple of other tracks from those Morley has selected. For example, he opts for 'Ceremony' from New Order. As this is essentially a Joy Division song, and they're represented by 'Transmission' and 'No Love Lost' as Warsaw, I'd have gone for 'Everything's Gone Green' or 'Temptation'. Similarly, The Teardrop Explodes have 'Reward' which pops up on just about every CD compilation ever (!!!) nowadays, so I'd have plumped for either of the Zoo 7"s, or even 'Treason'.

Of The Teardrop Explodes, Morley says:

- Five ways to describe the music of The Teardrop Explodes, who lastd between November 1978 and September 1982:
1. Cope Opera
2. Bubblegum trance punk pomp oral prog ghost folk
3. Absurdist Music with a heart of trash best heard by the light of a magical moon made by highly emotional daydreamers who wished for a world where you could spray your clothes out of a can.
4. Zipless psychedelia
5. Alienation at the kindergarten level. -

A bit up his own arse, that Morley fella!
