...talking of 'feeling gutted', I still have my '1976membership card' for Quaintways and yup....you guessed it....the one "live group" night I didn't go to was when they were on- Not that it made any big controversy as it was before the 'Grundy Incident' and before the music press 'changed it's tune'!
It would have been a refreshing change from seeing the usual glut of bad 'heavy metal' bands that used to play there every week and fascinating how things changed within a few months.

You live near Chester, Keith? I used to go to college in Handbridge and Blacon many moons ago, and would regularly sample the delights of Clavertons, and the amazingly-easy-to-score-from pub on the roundabout...

The only gig at Quaintways I can remember going to was local band Hieronymus Bosch which was actually after that Pistols date - late 76, early 77.
Not the type of music I'd choose to listen to nowadays, but they were good for the time (when excellent musicianship impressed me!). One of no doubt loads of bands that punk killed off I suppose.
Did see The Damned in Chester a few yrs later ('79) at Smartyz. Great night!
