? rulz!
Nov 13, 2003, 16:46
I have had the pleasure of seeing ? and the Mysterians in concert TWICE, they regrouped and have been doing stuff since c. 1994.

Their shows always start with the band on stage vamping like a MF, then ? makes his dramatic entrance from the back of the room, shimmying up to the stage in some sort of bare-chested ensemble -- the first time I saw him it was a silver lame (lam-ay) bodysuit open to the crotch! (And remember this dude is over 50 years old!)

? on stage is a lot like Prince, only he sweats like McJagger. The band is funky and tight and slammin, and there is a definite mariachi-oompa vibe to their sound (seems more noticable in concert than on record -- they're all Mexicanos from the Detroit area, except for the farfisa player who is a greyhaired anglo hippy -- I think he's the only non-original band member.)

I'm sure this description doesn't do it justice, but the point is -- never miss an opportunity to see them if they come your way!! You will be amazed!

(And I hear they've toured Europe quite a bit.)
