Totally off topic 5-track but the wife and I are planning a possible house hunt trip to Oregon and Washington state in march, we are looking at Vancouver Wa and Newport Or, do you have an opinion on either place?

Haven't been to either... Tho I've driven through Vancouver WA en route to Portland a few times. Proximity to Portland would be a plus, & right on the freeway if you're into that. Where do you live now?

Checking Newport on a map, turns out I HAVE driven through it, Oregon coast is gorgeous so I guess it comes down to if you prefer coastal access or city access? I would likely prefer coast, my wife would probably prefer city :)

We live in Los Angeles but are planning to take a look at both cities early next year. The prices for beach view property in Newport is less than a 2 bedroom house in Compton! I would as would my wife much prefer coastal access but also need to be near a decent Mall and schools!

Then you are probably looking at Vancouver WA is my guess. Lucky you, the NW is a truly wonderful part of the country. I am living here now for the second time & hope to stay.

Oregon is my favorite state, but I would not choose the coast. No snow, true, but 8 or 9 months of wet weather. And the wind!
The houses are cheaper and people move to the coast and then realize they don't like the cool wet windy weather. Better off in a place like Eugene and it's still close to the water.

Perversely, gun sales always go up when anyone makes a noise about limiting them.

Refusenik behavior of a sort. I understand the impulse, I'm just not a gun person. Lethality being the rub. If someone banned, say, vinyl records, I'd be upset but most likely lives would not be at stake (being only a very small part of the oil industry).

Although apparently the deer hunting season is also an annual spike.

Divided somewhat between drunken bullshit & authentic acquisition of authentic sustenance that hasn't been raised in a cage or given weird drugs. Respect to the latter impulse. As an excuse for buying extra weaponry for noisy kicks, again not my speed. Not even my parking lot. Set off some fireworks, y'all—I understand that blowing shit up is a joy, but it needn't hold lives beside one's own in the balance.

(Just sayin)
