Any around? I've worked to save peoples lives in all sorts of circumstances for the last 25 years. We have been shat upon. We need help.

The NHS will be a disastrous loss if it is lost. The people of the UK need to stand up for the NHS.

Used to work in the Christie Hospital for about 8 years. Yes, the NHS is being cynically sacrificed on the altar of ideology and greed by this toxic government. The Tories have always despised the NHS because it represents something of a socialist 'victory' that people across the political spectrum have benefited from for generations. They have a scorched earth policy to such things, including the welfare state and one of the many unpalatable reasons for this is, by and large, they come from a strata of society that simply doesn't have to use such services and so see them simply as a waste of money. Money, that presumably, would be better spent turning London into a tax haven for the rich, or simply sliding into the pockets of MPS and their mates on the boards of Private Health 'care' companies. They are horrible fuckers and must be destroyed.

Our average cost for a patient is about £100,000 per year, which is heavy on the taxpayer, but the consequenses may be more. And my rent is just stratospherically mad!

I know London pretty well and yes, there's extreme poverty there too. There seems to be an effort to turn parts of it into a Midas ghetto for the very wealthy and shunt anyone that doesn't fit that bill into either poor areas or out altogether whilst their properties are snaffled up to sell or rent at silly prices. George Osbourne's London vision is of a rich elite at the centre with a service economy powered by low paid workers commuting in at great cost to cater for them.

We don;t want a two-tier system like America's where healthcare is only available to those who can pay for medical insurance and everyone else is just left to rot. This is undoubtedly the way the Tories want things to head, and that momentum needs to be halted tout suite. Never thought I'd see the day when an American president attempts to introduce free healthcare whilst the UK government simultaneously tries to get rid of it.

Some people tend to forget that the NHS isn't free per se. It's paid for via the taxpayer. I'm happy to pay my fair share, but I just get a bit annoyed that us public service workers have essentially had a pay freeze for a few years, and in some cases (like myself) a pay reduction when MP's have pay rises. That is clearly not fair and equatable.

Yes - agreed. I work in the public sector too (although I'm in media, culture and sport rather than healthcare). That's why I'm out on strike next Wednesday.

Very poor. We saw the radiologists on strike at Raigmore last week, awful that it's come to them having to strike to get their voice heard on the news. On a positive note, the Tory policy of blatantly dismantling the NHS may keep a few people from giving them their vote next year.
