A bad day for democracy
Oct 05, 2013, 13:19
Just been to the protest/memorial in John Frost Square over the councils decision to destroy the Chartist mural in Friars walk. The mural was built in the late 70's and has been a treasured work of art in newport ever since. There have been petitions to save it, and a demonstration planned for today to get people's voices heard, however unbeknownst to everyone workers went in on thursday and destroyed the whole thing. Absolutely disgusting, so much for elected councils supposedly supporting and working for the people!

That's appalling! And creepily Orwellian. Erase a bit of history we don't like. Turd men!

Literally they didn't tell anyone. The council leaders are keeping a low profile at the moment as they know they're going to get a bollocking! As usual the last council leader popped his head up and say what a disgrace it was and hoped people didn't remember it was him that signed off the demolition in the first place 4 years ago. It was him, the tory councillor, who was insulting me yesterday!
