I was under the assumption that the age demographic was on a steady rise, and then I read this.. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/29765905/ More children born in the US in '07 than in any other single year in US history, even topping the first wave of the baby boom. Came as a real surprise to me... seems the last I knew the trend was heading the other way. Perhaps this is the solution to social security running out of money- the government's putting fertility drugs in the water supply, hah hah.

Is that a US practice similar to winding babies?

Imagine that! A horde of clockwork babies. There's a Steven King novel in there somewhere.

There's a bit in Stanislaw Lem's 'The Cyberiad' where we are told the tale of two warring cities. One of the cities, knowing their enemies weakness, stops attacking the walls and instead catapults babies into their city. As the target of this barrage of babies cannot help but minister to the needs of all these infants, their expenditure for formula and diapers and baby cribs overwhelms their military budget and they are forced into surrender. I think this thread is digressing quite well, don't you?

Good thinking, it increases your standard deduction, plus you may be eligible for an Earned Income Tax Credit: http://www.irs.gov/individuals/article/0,,id=96466,00.html

Jeezuz people just never learn and never will. It's age old, having baby after baby with not a jot of though as to how you're going to feed the blimmin thing. Sure enough anyone can end up the victim of circumstance, but just as often it's down to a bit of good old fashioned stupidity. Mr Zevon puts it wonderfully I was born in '63 Got a little job in the factory I don't know much about Kennedy I was too busy working in the factory We got a kid that's two, we got another one due We get by the best we can do The factory's got a good medical plan And, cousin, I'm a union man Saying, Yes sir, no sir, yes sir, no sir, yes sir, no sir - Work ! I was born in Mechanicsburg My daddy worked for Pontiac 'til he got hurt Now he's on disability And I got his old job in the factory Saying, Yes sir, no sir, yes sir, no sir, yes sir, no sir - Work ! Early in the morning I feel a chill The factory whistle blows loud and shrill I'd kill my wife or she'd kill me But we gotta go to work in the factory Six days a week at the factory Up early in the morning at the factory I've been working in the factory Johnny, I've been working in the factory Kickin' asbestos in the factory Punchin' out Chryslers in the factory Breathin' that plastic in the factory Makin' polyvinyl chloride in the factory In a brilliant Springsteen pardoy stylee x
