Brian Redhead's weather report from the Today programme a few years back: ''Bright in the north. Dull in the south. A bit like the people really."

Unbelievable. It's so "Brasseye". And of course, all the residents of the suggested Southern cities are gonna be only too keen to share their already crowded space with say, an influx of folk from a sink estate in Oldham. How much are these "think tanks" paid to deliver such bollocks?

Quite. Given that the seasons they are a changin' I did check to see whether April 1st had blown into August. This report is wrong on so many counts. You've all most probably sussed out what they are so I'm not going to bother listing them. Old Cameron backed away from it at a fair old speed though, didn't he? Still, wait til I publish my "think tank" proposals for an alternative "state funeral" for ol' Ma Thatcher when she finally ends up buying the ranch.

Why not? We've got plenty of jobs down 'ere for Sales Executives, Sales Managers, Senior Account Managers, Senior Sales Account Executive Managers - and you could always sell your 3-bedroon semi in Leeds for a 3 bedroom semi in Watford for only 3 times the price......

Why is it that such prominence and credibility is given to anyone who calls themselves a thinktank? Anyone can set themselves up, get some money from the people whose interests you want to serve, and produce a report to show why those interests should be given anything they want. As far as I can tell, thinktank is another word for political lobbying group, yet they get presented in the media as something more akin to objective scientists.
