No I wasn't saying you were out of kilter. I was saying that the statement was out of kilter with what Merrick would usually say.
The sentence is in keeping with what you have said, it just seemed inconsistant with what Merrick was saying, but that's because he didn't say it.
So, I'll say that I'm sorry to you too if you took offence where none was meant.
And anyway .. I can say what I like :-)

Somehow I totally missed that sentence ... kinda key to the whole thing.
I was on the phone whilst reading it.
Now I hate the fucker! Still don't wish him dead though.
Was he going to gain power? Was he a threat to this Law? ... enlighten me.

Know what you mean guv, but I'm not sure in that particular case it was his idea to be in there in the first place.
While we're on the subject, I believe it was discussed elsewhere on this list a while back that Mandela would have been released earlier but for his refusal to condemn the continuing violence which is highly ironic given what he did when he got out, I mean it was hardly a bloodbath!

I remember it well! I wrote it!! (in reference to Palestinian suicide bombings). And as he refused, that means, in a way, it WAS his decision to remain in jail!!

Actually I think 'capitalism' is used as a scape goat. All those leaflets after 9-11 saying how there couldn't be war and hatred without capitalism!
The problem is concentrations of power. Capitalism is the dominant concentration of power in our culture, so it's understandable why people see it as the problem, but as anyone who knows anything about feudalism, the Soviet Union etc etc, it ain't just capitalism.
