On the seventieth anniversary, this is what the BBC are asking. Yes. Next question. On Today this morning they had moseley's son on with someone who faught there. At the end, they asked the former if his father ever expressed any regrets. And, apparently he regretted deciding to go down that street. Oh, and not getting closer to Hitler. "Matter"? np. The Ghosts Of Cable Street - The Men They Couldn't Hang OK, only in my head. One of their mawkish (I know that's not the word I'm reaching for) classics, though.

I kinda thought much the same as you. Anyone in any doubts about it's importance should read this http://www.guardian.co.uk/farright/story/0,,1887102,00.html. A scary article about racists intimidating the anti-nazis. I like TMTCH song as well - great tune.

That's all they have: cowardly tactics and violence. Could it be possible to create a virus that would make that site collapse? Very interesting links on the bottom of the article, btw.

that bbc article wouldn't let me post a reply for some reason, most annoying. I wanted to reply to those morons who were talking about 'left fascists' and how the CPGB built up a 'myth' about fighting the fascists, when they'd actually fought the cops (who were, of course protecting the fascists). Needless to say neither the original article nor the later correspondents pointed out that several cops actually SURRENDERED to the anti-fascists. Took off their helmets and walked away. Cable Street is still an inspiration, a marvellous day when the rise and rise of the BUF - ably supported by the Mail of course (Hurrah for the Blackshirts lest we forget). It's funny, I did a bibliography of of Cable Street from contemporary sources for my library course ten years or so back - just after the Welling riot. The Guardian reported both in almost exactly the same language, terrible events that would set the cause of anti-fascism back. And then, seventy years later, they were heroic events...
